A HTS w/o sound? True! January 5, 2009 Orlando Acevedo The display at Best Buy didn't work. That should have deterred me. Rather, I thought it was a connectivity/setup issue on their end. So, I proceeded to buy it. Within the first three hours after setup, I lost sound a dozen times. It didn't matter the source...aux, dvd, ipod....the sound went out randomly. It wasn't the speaker connections; it wasn't the source. Returning it tomorrow.
Love it December 24, 2008 James R. Oelgoetz Very happy with the performance to cost ration for this product. Though I thought I'd be able to play normal television channels through the sound system, I guess the theater sound is only for the tuner and DVD modes. I like it a lot.
Beware Anynet...and Samsung customer service December 9, 2008 T. Huang (Pittsburgh, PA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Like most of you, I purchased this system 2 months ago after doing a lot of research on comparable HTIBs. I had to replace a great yamaha HTIB system I've had since 2004 ($800) because of problems w/ the integrated receiver/DVD reading minimally scratched DVD's. As with all HTIB's, you get what you pay for. While the picture quality and sound are great (as other reviewers have commented on), I've had several problems w/ the system already and have exchanged it twice for a new one. The first return occurred 3 days after purchase because: 1. I stopped receiving a picture from the DVD player despite being able to hear sound (using my HDMI connection directly to the TV). 2. The rear wireless module didn't recognize the main unit unless it was in DVD mode. We had to toggle back and forth between DVD and DIV-IN to "trick it" into connecting and getting ANY sound. 3. My wife and I also noticed a significant humming from the rear wireless module whenever the volume was >13 (likely the fan). I had seen one reviewer mention this, so I wasn't sure if I should be concerned or not. I talked to Samsung tech service (level 2) who couldn't figure it out, despite trying the usual trouble shooting tips. They then suggested returning it or getting it serviced. Of course, I simply returned it and got a new main unit and rear speaker module. The picture issue was fixed w/ the new unit, but I still had problems w/ the rear speaker module making too much noise and not connecting easily w/ the main unit. Again, called Samsung tech who couldn't offer any further advice as they haven't heard many complaints about the wireless module being too loud. So I returned it AGAIN, where they let me exchange it w/ a new rear wireless module and bluetooth connector. The humming noise is now gone! (very faint, but much better than the 2 previous modules). I still had to toggle between DVD and DIV-in to get the module to recognize the main unit, but this resolved itself once I purchased a samsung LCD (no idea why). My current problem is w/ the Anynet interface between the samsung TV and HTIB. Now, the great thing w/ the Anynet feature on Samsung products is that the 2 components will recognize each other (eg- the HTIB will automatically turn on/off when the TV is, or the TV will automatically change to the appropriate input if the DVD player is started). Unfortunately, after the first day of hooking the 2 samsung components up, the HTIB would turn itself off after 13 seconds and I would have to turn it back on. Samsung tech recommended turning the Anynet feature off, which fixed the issue. But they weren't able to correct the Anynet feature otherwise and I am now left w/ 2 Samsung products that don't play well together. Samsung tech said they're aware of the issue occurring randomly, but have no plans to fix it. Kinda defeats the purpose of having Anynet features. Poor customer support in my opinion. Though it was a great price, it's caused unmeasurable pain and suffering :)
Nice home theater for the price November 23, 2008 C. XU 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sound quality is good, the wireless rear speakers makes the wireing really easy. The two rear speakers are unbalanced. I manually adjusted the balance. The response to the USB drive is a little bit slow.
Good for the money October 25, 2008 Stereotype (USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Bought it at an excellent price, way cheaper than the local electronic stores in town thanks to a sale at Amazon. Had it shipped for free and received within five days. The set up is simple and to the point. The manual could be improved. One note on the rear speakers; ensure you have the system set up for 5:1 or else the surround speakers (rear-wireless) will not work. This can be done at the set up screen by selecting Sound > Speakers. I have seen a few complaints on the rear speakers not working, and that could be one of the issues. My set up was a breeze and everything works as expected. The front speakers are really good looking and easy to assemble. The speaker wires provided are cheap, so be ready to buy new ones. Pro's: HDMI Out (1), the picture on DVD's are very good and the sound is astonishing. If you have a Samsung TV with Anynet, the receiver and the TV will work in unison. Pretty cool feature to have, it will allow you to control the TV and the DVD with either remote. The TV will recognize the Home Teather System right way and will set up the Anynet feature automatically. There is also a plug-in for your iPod. Con's: There isn't any HDMI in, and only one Digital input. Wish it would have at least 2 HDMI's input and 2 HDMI's output. Overall, good equipment for the money!!
