Product Description The HT-S3100 covers today's key entertainment options. The HT-S3100 has a trademark amplification design that puts power and precision before all else. Onkyo's High Current Power Supply (H.C.P.S.) concept ensures that you will always have the power to respond to the wide dynamics of surround sound. When the sound is attenuated in a conventional amplifier, the audio signal drops close to the noise floor at low volumes, thereby tainting the signal. Onkyo's Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry adjusts the gain so that less than half the standard amount of attenuation is necessary. The gloss finish of the speakers accentuates the minimalist styling of today's displays. An equivalent technology from Dolby Digital, Pro Logic II, also brings you multichannel sound from regular stereo, for a more expansive home cinema experience. CinemaFILTER restores the correct tonal balance for playing a movie soundtrack in the smaller confines of your home theater. CinemaFILTER can be used with DTS and Dolby listening modes, and is easily activated from your remote control. If you use the OR-EQ equalizer button, you'll get a more powerful, direct sound from movie sources. Color-Coded Speaker Terminals Easy-Set Speaker Configuration Crossover Adjustment (40/50/60/80/100/120/150/200 Hz) Compatible with RI (Remote Interactive) Dock for the iPod A/V Sync Control Function (Fixed at 0/20/40 ms) Full-Function RI (Remote Interactive) Remote Control HTP-360 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System Tuning Frequency Range - FM 87.5 MHz-107.9 MHz and AM 530 kHz-1710 kHz Front Speaker - 4 x 10-3/4 x 4-3/4 (101x273x121mm), 2.2 pounds (1.0 kg) Center Speaker - 10-3/4 x 4 x 4-3/16 (273x101x106mm), 2.2 pounds (1.0 kg) Surround Speaker - 4 x 10-3/4 x 4-3/4 (101x273x121mm), 1.5 pounds (0.8 kg) Subwoofer Speaker - 9-5/8 x 16-1/8 x 14-5/8 (245x410x372mm), 14.6 pounds (6.6 kg)

Great Little System! January 3, 2009 Linda (Dallas) This system was purchased for our bedroom, as we already have a larger system for the living room. We needed a switchable system that could handle both a HDTV and DVD recorder, and yet would not be too expensive for our budget. After considerable research of consumer reviews, we decided on the Onkyo HT-S3100. It arrived 2 business days after placing the order, and we couldn't be more pleased with this system. It has all the color coded input and output jacks that we could have wanted, and also has a great sound - which actually seems much 'bigger' than its 700 watts. We would have preferred to have the vents located in the back, rather than on top, but since our other components have back vents, the Onkyo just sits on top of the others.

Fantastic home theatre in a box. I was always fearful of this type of home center. I used to sell Denon products and own a Denon amp and a large home theatre set up in my basement. I wanted something for the living room that I could hook up a DVD, DVR, and X-box to. This product does it all. I was a little leary of a non-powered sub woofer. But this system comes through, big time. A friend of mine will be ordering one soon, and I would recommend this to everyone. Sounds as good as it looks.
Inexpensive, effective November 29, 2008 Seattlite (Seattle, WA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was nervous about this purchase; so many choices for Home theatres.. component or all-in-one, how much to pay.. what are all these cables types/formats.. For my needs, this was a low cost (at $240) and effective solution. Setting things up was easy; lots of color-coded speaker wires. Needed only to purchase one TOSLINK cable to connect my Xbox 360 to it and I'm done. The only (potential) downside is that this device does not have any HDMI ports; so if you have multiple HDMI sources (console+dvd+cable?), you will start to have troubles down the road unless your TV has enough HDMI inputs for them all. Also, there are only 2 TOSLINK (Optical Audio) ports. The speaker cables look quite standard however and it looks like it will be quite easy to upgrade the receiver to something fancier without needing to buy speakers again. I'm generally of the opinion that trying to buy "future-proof" electronics is expensive and/or futile. But I'm glad that this time, I've gotten a system that uses standard speaker wires (unlike my last cheap 5.1 system). I may regret the HDMI decision.. but at this time, I can't imagine needing more than 2 HDMI sources (which my 2 year old HDTV has).
Very happy with this home stereo October 31, 2008 C. Lung (Texas, USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this with hopes it was going to be able to fill my living room with full sound. Since I have a very open floor plan, my ceiling in the living room is about 20 feet high and flows into the second floor of the house over a large balcony. This stereo definitely has the power to fill the room with sound. I can easy fill the entire house with sound. I haven't yet used this for music, only movies and T.V. I tested it out using a few DVDs like Star Wars Episode II, III and to me it sounds just like the theater. Overall I'm very happy with this stereo and the price was just right. I can't really think of any complaints.
Good entry level 5.1. September 10, 2008 Russell Staheli 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For the price and simplicity of setup, you can't get any better. The sub leaves much to be desired, if I was to do it over again I wouldn't have gone with passively powered. Speaker build and sound quality are better than any other <$300 dollar system I have ever heard.
